Isabel turns Five
July 14, 2009 1:09 pmMy oldest, Isabel, turned 5 this weekend! It was so hard to believe, especially with Kindergarten coming in the fall. Where does time go?
We had a polka dot themed party (as you’ll see from the dress post tomorrow). Here were couple silhouettes we made and the polka dot sign…

Then I got this idea from Jessica on Oh, So Happy Together.
We made big polka dots the same colors as her dress. I loved them so much I hung them back up in the girls’ room after we were done with the party.
Here was her present. Remember the piggy fabric from Harts? I just came up with a pattern and here’s how it turned out.
Then here’s the backpack I made her.

I added this detail to the front with a little “i” on it for her name.

The back. Originally i thought I would just buy backpack straps, but I ended up making matching ones.
Here’s a side view with the pockets.
It was really fun to make both her presents this year. The backpack was fun to do because I love constructing things and I think the next time around it will be even easier because I created a pattern for it. Hope you enjoy them!

I can't even fathom making a backpack from a pattern, let alone from scratch. Good Job. Both presents are adorable. I'm sure she was a happy little birthday girl!

i love your site! i made the bubble dress for my 2 year old daughter and one for her friend for July 4th. they were a hit! i was actually planning on making her a backpack for starting preschool this year. my hubby thinks i am crazy and should just buy it but i thought it would be more special if i made one for her. would you mind sharing your blueprint for the backpack? thanks so much again for sharing your creativity!
