Car Seat Cover Makeovers

August 25, 2009 12:54 pm

I made this carseat cover for an order last week. It has an ‘H’ at the top for the littly guys name.

I’ve done carseat covers a lot, toddler ones and baby ones, so I thought I’d post the one’s I’ve done for my girls. I didn’t take pictures of all the others ones I’ve done, sadly. This is Ava’s. (that’s some weird shadow. it’s not really that dirty:))
This is Giselle’s.
This is an old one.
And here is Bel’s booster.
I couldn’t do this post without mentioning Dana at MADE. Her carseat covers are so gorgeous. Anyhow, hope you all are having a great day!

This is one of those posts that makes me go… "how does she do it??"!
Do you use a pattern for these, or just measure the old seat cover? I'm slowly starting to do more advanced projects, so hopefully I can try this sometime soon!

Yes Ruth, I desperately need that tutorial!
My question is, do you make it completely from scratch, padding and all? Do you just do a fabric one to go over the old one, or do you attach a new top to the old one? I think I was a little too ambitious and made it all from scratch, padding and all, but now it's a bit lopsided and doesn't quite fit right and looks NO WHERE NEAR as gorgeous as the ones I keep seeing other people make! Help!

For mine I made a cover to go over the original padding but you could I guess pad it with some thick batting to give it a little thickness. Hope that helps!

Oh goodie, yay! Now you can get all the comments asking how to make them :) . haha.
I've considered doing a tutorial on these forever….but I just don't feel motivated or excited about it. Maybe you'll do it instead. heehee :)

Disney- I do'nt use a pattern, I just make do one as I go.

Lila- My girls nap every day and I"m a fast sewer. I go into each sewing session with a clear view of what I'm going to do so it's easily executed. That's my secret :)
Thanks, Ruth for posting the tute!

The Paxton family- I don't use padding because I just add it on to the car seat cover. You can do one with padding, but then I would take your original cover off so their isn't too much padding. I'm sure it would make the project much more feasible now.

Dana- I'm the exact same way. I like the result of making them, I just don't like doing them. And after doing so mnay they are just a little monotonous now. Someone posted a tutroial for them in the comments so noe everyone can see how they are done!

So much cuter than the AWFUL booster seat fabric on ours. I wish I had your sewing talent…I'm more of a straight stich gal : )
