Knock Off Shirt

October 29, 2009 9:31 pm

I was really intrigued by this shirt. To say I loved it wouldn’t be fair, but I thought the idea was cool. But I also thought maybe it wasn’t so figure flattering. But I gave it a go.

Here’s my sister showing it off for me.

Instead of organza(because who has THAT laying around??) I used a soft grey jersey. I just used a grey ribbed tank that I had laying around.

Instead of going fairly straight down like the J. Crew version, I draped mine over more….

… then pulled it around the side to the back. I love when things come around the side. I think they are more slimming. And I love this shirt as a vest- like top. I’ve actually worn it a few times already and really like it!

I just went to J Crew this afternoon and fell in love with so many shirts. I ended up buying a cheep t-shirt from H&M so that I could refashion the neck lines.
Love your versions of all the J Crew t's!

Your shirt is cuter than J Crew's shirt! Well done!

Your J.Crew copies are so close to the originals! I recently threw together a cute grey t-shirt with J.Crew-ey silk details on my blog (http://adventuresindressmaking.blogspot.com/2009/11/jcrew-inspired-novelty-tee.html)–check it out!, although it's not an exact replica of any of them. I have been wanting to do more of these, since they are so quick and fun, but I need to buy more plain t-shirts first ;) Thanks for the ideas!

Cute! I used this as inspiration for a recent refashion of mine: http://sunshinemamasite.blogspot.com/2009/12/merry-christmas-and-more-holiday.html

One of these days I'll open a flickr account so I can post my pics there…
