I’m Bringin’ the Hand Muff (or muffler??) Back (and Merry Christmas)

December 21, 2009 8:05 pm

I had the most gorgeous white furry muff when I was little and I was thinking about it the other day. I want to bring the muff back! So here’s a easy tutorial for a lovely lady like muff.

I started with 2 pieces of flat pink minky, measuring 24×14. I also used one piece of batting for the middle to make it extra fluffy, with the same measurements.
I added this trim piece about 3/4 of the way down on one of the pieces of minky.

Now you need to sew the sides. Layer it like this: batting on the bottom, minky facing up, then minky facing down.
Sew just the long sides together then turn right side out.

I used a long piece of coordinating ribbon for the neck piece.
Lay it on top of the muff with the ends slightly sticking out of the edges.

Fold the muff in half inside out and pin. Sew together.

What do you think? Can we unite forces and bring the muff back?
Bel thinks so.

I think I’m signing off for Christmas.
Here are pictures from each year form Christmas that we’ve been married.

Hi…I feel odd telling you this but it's called a muffler or hand muffler. The word muff is slang for a woman's private area.

Wow, had no idea. I looked it up and it's referred to as both, but I added it in so people don't think I'm a TOTAL creep… Thanks!

Now that I think about it, I remember having a handmuff when I was a little girl, too! I felt very fancy walking around with my hands inside it – even in the heat of an Arkansas summer.
