Paper Bag Waist Skirt and Pleated Top
February 22, 2010 8:18 pm

,but I still wanted to shoot my sister in it so you could see it better.
Here is my paper bag waist skirt and Peach Pleated Top.

The top is a peachy pink vegetable dyed cotton by Vera Wang. It’s, hand down, one of my favorite fabrics that I’ve worked with. I did this pleats down the front and the neckline with some fold over detailing, then some buttons.

The top V’s in the back and has a small, slimming closure.
The skirt is a super soft yarn died linen with a paper bag waist and black cotton tie and with the same black cotton detailing at the bottom.
It also has pockets.
This skirt is the best! I wear it all the time and its fashionable and comfortable.
Love her in this shot.
Here’s where you can help me out again!!
Your feedback means a lot to me and I’d love to hear any thoughts about either pieces or the shoot, in general. Also, would either of these pieces be somehting you’d buy or want to see in the etsy store?
Please take a moment and let me know your thoughts! It really helps me out!

The top is absolutely stunning and I’ll say it again, two words: PROJECT RUNWAY.
That is all.

Thank you so much! I’ve been loving your new site! I know what you mean, I’ve been pretty busy lately, and I don’t get to do much blog reading these days!
Oh, and I love the photos, and I especially love the skirt!!

Love the skirt! I could really see it working in a range of seasons per the material. The fit can be very flattering to a range of shapes.

I adore the top… If I could sew like that I’d be trying for Project Runway! The skirt is super cute too, I’m just not sure it would be too flattering on me. I don’t have as much definition in the waist as you and your sister. But then again, I’ve never tried that style on before….if I could pull it off I’d totally wear it! I LoVE your website, by the way!!!

I love, love the top! It is such a pretty color & very slimming. The skirt would not look the best on me but it looks cute on you & your sister.

I like the color full-body shot the best: it shows the proportions of the skirt in relation to the legs and body.

I’m all about that skirt!! I’ve been looking for a good pattern and haven’t been able to find one to make a skirt like that myself…

This outfit is stunning, Alexis! As always. And still, every time you show us something new, I feel like, WOW this one is the best so far. I love your creations and would not think twice to buy them if I’d see them in a store here in Romania even, hahaha.

I know I don’t comment frequently, but read ALL THE TIME!
I’m even trying one of your tutorials currently! Seeing as I’m not much of a seamstress – I have not constrictive criticism. I mean, hello, your clothes are cloaked in awesomeness.
I am a home-grown photographer though. I was wondering what kind of camera you shoot with and what editing program you use??? The photos don’t seem to be as crisp as they could be and I think that would REALLY help!

I love both! I only have an issue with the back of the shirt. The v looks unfinished, almost as if it’s missing a closure or something back there…

Well, as usual I love your style. I love this whole outfit. But I just don’t feel like i’m awesome enough to pull it off. I still love looking at everything, hopeing one day I’ll become more confident and daring.

I would love if you offered a pattern for the skirt! I love the pockets and, for those of us not lucky enough to live in Northern CA, it would be great to have a summer version in linen or chambray and a winter version that I could pair with tights and boots.

I like the top but the skirt is a little to short for me to wear. Would you consider making a longer version of the skirt?

Yes, Yes, and Yes. I would buy this, I would like it in your store and I love both pieces. You are an amazing designer! Keep it up!

Your work is beautiful! I love the outfit! Personally, I wouldn’t wear the shirt just because I tend to stick with just about the simplest things I can find but the skirt I adore!!! I would love to have something like that in my wardrobe, I love the colors and the pockets and the general style–it is simply perfect!

the outfit looks great. i like the skirt but don’t think it would look good with my postpartum pooch. i love the pockets! i would want one of i thought it would look good on me. would be cute for spring and summer.

really great designs! I like the photoshoot too — great make-up, hair, love the boots — although I wouldn’t cut off the model’s head in certain pics like the 5th and 6th pictures down (I know you’re trying to show detail but I think the face enhances your designs more, it’s a bit jarring without it). I like the color pics and the black and white, and the tree is a great backdrop/prop. I’d tweek the centering on the last pic too. I hope you don’t mind my comments, but your designs are great and deserve to be shown off to the max!

The skirt is amazing and would look good on a lot of people. The top looks really great on you and your sister, but I can’t see it looking good on most people. It’s not a very universally flattering shape, BUT if I had a model body like you guys, I would so buy it!

i would definitely buy the pattern for the skirt- so comfy but stylish!

I saw a skirt like this and I have been trying to figure out how I can make one myself. I know it can’t be hard. What do you do at the top to make it look like that?
