Daily Wear and New to the Shop
March 23, 2010 11:52 amHappy Tuesday everyone!
Here is a new dress I made for myself over the weekend. I wore it with an oversized sweater, knee high boots and my pleated purse.
Those of you that have been with me this whole time know how much I looooove white. This dress is a Burberry cream on cream striped jersey. It has cascading ruffles down the front.
It has smocked sleeves, smocked neckline and a slimming smocked waistband. Its comforatble, airy and effortless. A great dress to wear casually or dress up.
It’s for sale in my etsy shop, along with two paperbag wiast skirts from my new line at Stripe. This one is a chambray denim.
This one is a combed pink cotton.
Both are a one size fits most! One more day left to enter the giveaway!! And NO! I’m not going to stop doing tutorials. I’ve got one coming on Thursday.
OH! And if you live locally, 20% off our ENTIRE purchase at Stripe today!!
QUESTION: A lot of you requested me to do a dress tutorial for the Anthropologie “You name it, Ill show you how to make it”. Now, I can show you how I make a dress for me, but it’s going to be SOOO different for each body. You may need to dart more, extend more in the back, take in more in the waist etc… I’m worried that whole part will be not helpful at all. Would you rather have a shirt tutorial or an easy dress one? Let me know so I can choose which one to do!

I love, love, love your stuff! My family is going to be visiting Santa Cruz in April or May and I can’t WAIT to visit Stripe.
I have a 3 month old baby that I’m nursing. Is this dress stretchy enough to pull down to nurse? If not, do you have one you’d recommend? Thanks!

I vote for a dress. But I would love any help you could provide on how to work with jersey. I tried once 8 years ago and ended up in tears. It’s the biggest thing stopping me from trying your amazing tutorials.

i vote for a dress.
i love them but rarely wear them, because that would require shaving.
an empire style would be great for those with the poofy thing hanging out in front, like me.
i hope you design something i am not daunted by.
i really really want to make my own clothes, to have the unique style without the ungodly expense.
sincerely, marilyn

Love this one and loved the purple one you wore recently too!

i would totally love a dress tutorial. It pretty easy to fudge your way and alter a dress so it fits a little better once you get the basic dress form down.

Hi Alexis, Can you tell me what kind of boots you are wearing here? Also I have a small world story for you… A few weeks ago, I went with a friend to a girls night out where I was meeting most of the girls for the first time. They all commented on a top I was wearing, that has blush pink rosettes on the neckline. I started telling them about how easy it would be to make, and then I mentioned that I followed a blog (yours) that could teach them how to refashion in all sorts of ways… Well, one of the girls (Katy) knew you from childhood! Definitely wasn’t expecting to make any connection like that in Ketchikan Alaska!
. She was curious how i knew you, and I had to explain that I found your blog through Etsy back in the mymamamadeit days! Pretty Crazy!!
