I Conquered The Shorts. Part 2
May 21, 2010 8:17 amOk, shorts round 2. I realized jersey was the stupidest thing to do for round 1. I thought it would be easy for some reason. It wasn’t. But here’s my second go at it!
For this pair I used a coffee colored linen with a contrasting cream stitch. I used that same Burda pattern, just changed my style. I added a band at the bottom, just like on the first pair, but I didn’t bubble these.
My sister from behind. (Thank God I don’t have to model these. I would never want anyone taking pictures of my rear this close. Thanks, sissy!!)
I did this decorative detail down the side.
I used a cute blue button, just for fun. And take a look at the fly! It’s WAY better!
I was so happy these came out even better. And wait till you see round 3!! I REALY mixed it up for those!

Just curious but is one leg shorter than the other or is it just not pulled down all the way?

Looks really nice! The blue button is a nice touch. I’ve never tried making pants because just the thought of it kind of scares me.
Maybe I’ll have to follow your example and just try it.

I am empressed! You have done a beautiful job for never making pants before. I would like to share a tip with you, and it will change the way you make all your pants/shorts in the future.
As someone who’s bottom is 2 sizes bigger then her top, making, or getting, pants to fit can be a nightmare. My mom learned this trick years ago, and it pretty much is a no fail way to get pants to fit you perfectly!
When you cut out your pants, cut the patterns 4 inches longer at the tops of the pants then the pattern shows.
Once you have done this, sew the side and inseams up. Try the pants on, inside out, and measure, from the crotch up, with a t-square ruler (you know, from the garage!). Mark the fabric with taylor’s chalk, at where your natural waist is. (Most of us find that the back will have less fabric left over then the front.) This chalk line is your finished waistline.
Allow for the type of finished waistline you desire, and cut the fabric. Contiue to finish the pants, and you will find that the pants fit YOU perfectly! It saves a lot of time trying to “fix” the pants once you have finished them! Good luck!
