Yogurt Maker Giveaway- CLOSED

January 12, 2011 6:39 pm

Here it is, as promised!  I wanted to show you how easy it is to use a yogurt maker. I run mine every other day because we go through it so fast.  This is a great article on yogurt and all it’s benefits and why much of the store bought stuff is not beneficial to you. And why buy it when you can make your own so easily!

Heat your milk. We use whole raw milk (why? Look here.) Your instructions will tell you all about the temperature details. What I love about making your own is you can use any kind you want- goat, sheep, cow, soy, etc…

When it reaches the desired temperature, cool it down to around 100 degrees. My kitchen thermometer broke so I used my husbands infrared one for work :)

Then mix in your yogurt starter, or the probiotics-all the good stuff! You can use a cup of yogurt, one from a previous batch or you can buy the yogurt starter packets.

After mixing well, pour into your little jars, put the lid on and set the timer for the desired time. It can take anywhere from 7-11 hours, depending on your milk. (Again, the instructions go over all those details.)

As with anything homemade, it takes a little more time then going to the store and buying it. But the ingredients are all natural and it saves us a ton of money! We always make ours plain, but there’s instructions for making flavored yogurt, too.  I top ours with raw honey and nuts or stir in a little homemade jam.

Lex and CSN are you giving you $40 towards your own yogurt maker! I recommend this Euro Cusine Yogurt Maker, but you can choose your own, too!

Nothing fancy, just leave a comment and the winner will be randomly  chosen on Monday morning. Good luck!

I already have this model yoghert maker and it works really well! My daughter Madelene bought it a couple of years ago for my birthday. I also purchased a yoghert cheese maker on Amazon which drains the yoghert through a nice sieve apparatus and makes the yoghert thick and even spreadable. This is how Greek yoghert is typically made. I like to serve it like ice cream. I love it. Whoever wins the maker will love it!
