Paper Garland

First of all, thank you so much for your kind words following my last post. I couldn’t reply to all of them, but you have no idea how much they meant to me. I’m going to print them out for my sister to read, too. I thought I’d share a picture of my sister, her husband and two children that was taken this weekend at the baptism of their baby. You can see on their faces that even through the suffering, there is still joy.

Zach’s 30th birthday was a couple weeks ago so I wanted to share some ideas I used for his party. I’m not a big decorator and I also didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I wanted to try to do something nice since it was his 30th. So as I was thinking about it I came across some paper garland. I thought, “Perfect. I have paper!” So this garland was the first step for decorating. I got some old books I had and marked circles.

I cut them out with pinking sheers.

Then I cut out fabric circles from scraps, slightly smaller then my paper circles.

Then I placed the fabric circles on top of the paper and just sewed away.

I ended up with A LOT of garland.

I love the simplicity of the vintage paper and the fabric. I also love that it didn’t cost me anything. More to come on the rest of my decorating later this week!

As we were walking on the beach yesterday. I captured this random moment. I’m grateful.

Completely grateful.

Give Thanks Wall Hanging

I’m not crafty. I”ve accepted it and am moving on. So sometimes I’m remotely embarrassed showing you my attempts at craftiness. But I still share on! Here is a wall hanging I made for Thanksgiving. It was based off of a turkey table runner from Pottery Barn that I had seen. I wanted it on a rustic burlap.

I just zig zag stitched the letters directly on to the burlap.

The turkey I did on a seperate piece of fabric then stitched that on to the burlap. I just used scrap fabric to make the turkey. VERY EASY!!

I love all the different fabrics combine together.

This is such an easy Thanksgiving project. You could personalize it with your family name or another saying.

Halloween Costume Round 2: Sleeping Beauty

Ava wanted to be Aurora for Halloween. So I spent lots of time on this costume. No wait, she wants to be last years costume, Minnie Mouse. No, now Aurora. No, Minnie. This is the story of my life. She changes her mind every day. But, then the Minnie costume suddenly disappeared… Veerry mysterious. Meet my reluctant Aurora.

I made this dress from some different silks. I wish I would have thought it out more because I wasn’t 100% happy about it.

I do love the high collar in the back.

I did a built in petticoat to add some volume.

She’s a slightly melancholy Aurora.

But I’m sure all that will change once the candy starts rolling in.

Maybe I should just let Minnie reappear.

Round 1 Halloween Costumes: Alice

I was never that into Halloween. But last year I loved the challenge of creating a costume and trying to replicate the original to a T. So this year, despite my best efforts in persuading her to let me make her a Scarlett Ohara costume, Isabel decided to be Alice. This picture was my inspiration:

And here is MY Alice.

I love this plain blue cotton dress with the coordinating apron.

I tried to nail it down to the puffy apron sleeve and the simple black headband.

I used a petticoat I had made for a birthday dress a while back.

Someone call Disneyland. Alice has escaped. (But, seriously. How much does this kid look like Alice?!)

And she loves it.

Here’s a closeup:

November 1st begins a year long brainwashing as to why Bel should be Scarlett Ohara next year.

I haven’t gotten to take pictures of the other girls yet so those will probably come after HAlloween. But here’s a hint: A hidden princess and a child star….

I Need Fall Craft Ideas, please.

I though I would come to you to ask you to share any fall crafts with me. I don’t have much time to research right now, but wanted to do some fun fall things with the girls.

I’ve done this one from Martha, which we love…

… and that’s about it aside from the normal pumpkin and garland decorating.

So bring it on! Give me your best! Don’t let me down! Go team!

( I may have gotten carried away there. Sorry)
