Wizard of Oz Skirts
June 5, 2009 1:46 pm
The other morning , for whatever reason, I woke up thinking of “The Wizard of Oz”. I was thinking about the technicolor bright colors of the yellow brick road, Dorothy’s shoes and dress and all the munchkins. So I decided to make a bright ‘technicolor’ skirt inspired by the movie. In the middle of making them, the screw that holds my serger needle in came out and only God knows where it ended up AND the belt came off of my sewing machine motor (which I fixed by myself, thank you very much!) So I got a little fried half way in, but here’s how they turned out:

Once again, my cute-enough-to-eat, Giselle.
All three of my little ladies.
Ava, ready to swing from a tree. (No surprise there!)
I don’t normally work with such vibrant colors, so it was a fun change. I’ve always used beautiful printed fabric, the kind that you could just hang on a wall and it’s pretty on its own, you know? So I’ve really been trying to begin making clothes in more simple fabric because I’d like to work on some neat different textures and construction on clothing . When I work with pretty prints, you don’t need to do much to it to make it pretty. (Which is WONDERFUL!) But I want to challenge myself and see where it takes me. I’m not, by any means, done making my floral print outfits, I just want to veer for a a little bit. We’ll see how it goes…
