Friday Fall Fashion Puzzle

October 29, 2010 8:34 am

This week for our Fall Fashion feature, I wanted to feature someone new. My friend Mary always looks so stylish and adorable so I thought Id show you one of her outfits.

We paired this adorable denim chambray tunic dress with a waist cinching belt.

This orange sweater really brightens the whole look up.

Effortless boots complete the look.

For cooler days, tights would be great with this look! Thank you, Mary!!

Don’t know if you noticed, the site has been updated a little. I hope you like the new look! Feel free to browse around.  You can see recent press for Made by Lex, see my updated About Me page, and easily navigate through all the different categories on the left hand side. As always, if you have any tips or comments for easier navigation or any features you’d like to see, please let me know! I’d love to hear your feedback!

Friday Fall Fashion Puzzle

October 15, 2010 8:16 am

Happy Friday!

This week I wanted to do another day to night look.  This look begins with simple cognac boots, grey riding leggings, an army green silk tank and my new oatmeal Covered Wrap (available at etsy). I’ve been tempted to wear  this wrap every day. It defines “effortlessly chic” to me.

It’s a one size and is extremely versatile.

To take it to night, it’s so easy. Throw on black heels and add a show-stopping bag ( which will be a new tutorial next week) and it completely dresses the look up.

I love this combination. I love the contrast of the textured knit, the soft muted silk and the loud bag. Gold jewelry is a must with this look. It really livens it up.

Enjoy your weekend!

Friday Fall Fashion Puzzle

October 8, 2010 7:15 am

This week my sister, Clare, is gone so I had to ‘model’ my own outfit. Which didn’t go so well. Please know that I didn’t intend for my face to not be in one picture (although I’m somewhat relieved). It’s just I’m no good at propping the camera and taking my own pictures.

For this week I wanted to show you how to take a spring/summer dress into the fall. I have one of my favorite dresses here that I got about 6 years ago. I put a long sleeve T over it in a similar tone as the dress’ background so it wouldn’t cut me off.  Then I added a small skinny belt over that to add some definition.

I paired it with my favorite, bulky fall riding boots and you can add a jacket.

I love the soft, airy gypsy feel to this fabric.

Then you contrast it with some heavy leather and it takes it into the cool weather season. If you’re going to invest in a pair of boots, I highly recommend riding boots. They are always in style and have such a classic, American sportswear feel to them.

Don’t be afraid to transition pieces into fall. Just think about contrasting them instead of pairing them.

Enjoy your weekend!

Friday Fall Fashion Puzzle

October 1, 2010 4:22 pm

Thigh-high socks. I’m falling in love with them. They’re one more great layering piece especially fashionable this fall.

Here are some of my favorite looks on the runway:

Inspired by some of those, here is my  fall outfit for this Friday. (AND, I’d like to preface this and say that while I was photographing this I was watching two of my girls and holding a screaming baby. So things are cut off, proportions are weird… forgive me)

I wanted to incoroprate another one of my favoirtes for fall-  leather and lace. So for day I have on my sister- black leggings (American Apparel), thigh high socks (Target), a cream lace tank (some boutique in Boston), my favorite Donni Charm Scarf, my ‘leather’ jacket that we added the bomber collar to, and my Lucia purse and leather boots. It’s a great multi-layered  look for daytime.

The thigh-highs add so much to make it interesting.

Now this look could easily go into night. Just add some heels, in this case my favorite leopard wedges from Guess that I’ve had for 5 years and a textured clutch. (Find the DIY here!)

So, what do you think? Are you on the thigh-high sock train with me?
