Hemline to Headband
March 9, 2010 8:41 pmYay! I found the time to post a little tutorial!
I have a TON of hemlines laying around. From all my t-shirt refashioning I’ve gathered about 30 of them. And I can’t throw them away. So I FINALLY cam up with something to do with them!
Last week a reader emailed me about making some of these amazing headbands. Now, mine don’t come close, but they inspired me. Take a hemline from a shirt. Cut it nice and clean. Measure it so it reaches almost all the way around your head, minus 4 inches.
Get a piece of elastic 2.5 inches long. Insert it right in to your hemline headband.
Stitch it in place on each end with a zig-zag stitch. Here’s the base of your headband! How easy was that?
Now you can add to it whatever your little heart desires! I added this simple flower to one of the hemline headbands with three gold beads in the middle.
Here it is on.
I did some chiffon gathered flowers for this headband.
And on…
I’m one of those people that looks at headbands and other people and always loves them but never wears them myself. So I don’t know if I’m brave enough to wear them out of the house. But I wore them while I cleaned out bathrooms today and it made me feel VERY glamorous.
Here are some flower tutorials I did that you could use to add to the headband:
If you guys have any flower tutorials or cool things that you could add to the headbands, send me the link and I’ll post it here to share with everyone!
Don’t forget to vote for the “You name it- I’ll show you how to make it!” series. I love all the requests so far! Keep them coming!!
AND, I (and by I, I mean Morgan, my amazing web designer from PDB) have added an email subscription option to the sidebar.

Heart Felt Headbands- A Valentines Gift
February 8, 2010 2:56 pmThis year for Valentines Day I wanted to do something for Isabel’s classmates that they could actually use, but that wouldn’t take much time or money. There are only 12 kids in her class, 3 girls and 9 boys! So I decided to do “heart-felt” (get it?) headbands for the girls. They are easy enough to do for a big class, too.
Start out by cutting some heart shaped felt.
Here are some of the colors I chose.
Get a strip of felt, about 1.5×3.
Begin glueing your hearts on the strip of felt.
You can layer them however you like.
Here’s how mine came out.
I did these three color palettes.

Now, hot glue the strip in to the headband. (Got a 5 pack at the dollar tree!)
And you’re pretty much all done!
Aren’t they lovely?!
They even look cute on a little baldy!
I just added a little tag with the girls’ initial and you’re all set!
Easy, cheap, fast and fun! And it doesn’t include a sugar rush!!
Stay tuned for the boys felt Valentine’s tutorial coming soon!!
