Paper Bag Waist Skirt and Pleated Top

February 22, 2010 8:18 pm

Here are another couple pieces that I’ve designed. I know you saw this outfit in our Christmas shoot this year,

,but I still wanted to shoot my sister in it so you could see it better.

Here is my paper bag waist skirt and Peach Pleated Top.

The top is a peachy pink vegetable dyed  cotton by Vera Wang. It’s, hand down, one of my favorite fabrics that I’ve worked with.  I did this pleats down the front and the neckline with some fold over detailing, then some buttons.

The top V’s in the back and has a small, slimming closure.

The skirt is a super soft yarn died linen with a paper bag waist and black cotton tie and with the same black cotton detailing at the bottom.

It also has pockets.

This skirt is the best! I wear it all the time and its fashionable and comfortable.

Love her in this shot.

Here’s where you can help me out again!!

Your feedback means a lot to me and I’d love to hear any thoughts about either pieces or the shoot, in general.  Also, would either of these pieces be somehting you’d buy or want to see in the etsy store?

Please take a moment and let me know your thoughts! It really helps me out!

I’m in pleat heaven

June 21, 2009 3:12 pm

I just finished working on this outfit for Isabel. I love, love, love it and want one for myself. I used this super soft linen that I got from Harts. (note to self: kids don’t like linen. they hate it.)
I started by making a simple shift top…
Then I spent a long time making a lot of pleats.

This is how the top came out. The ruffles go all the way around the collar.

Here’s the skirt I made. I wanted the outfit to go together, but still be able to be worn separate and have as much impact on it’s own.

A closeup of the pleats.

The waistband. I even like the orange stitching on it.

Isn’t the color combination great?

Here’s how it looks together!

I think I’m mildly obsessed with pleats now. What I’m planning next is all white dresses for the girls with a slightly off white color for the pleats. So it will be a white on white dress, but with slight variations. I’m just working on the dress design right now. I can’t wait to make it!

I have a tutorial for women coming up inspired by this shirt from Anthropologie that I’ve been eyeing for months.
It’s turning out really cute so check back for it soon! I’m waiting one more day for the bubble dress vs. ruffle skirt tutorial votes then I’ll put together a tutorial for the winning one.
