First is this light denim skirt with pockets.

It has a great pleating detail at the bottom. It’s the perfect blank canvas for spring’s wardrobe.

Next is the breezeway blouse in a coral and navy chevron stripe.

It has an open back detail with a small gold button closure.

First figure out what fabrics you want to use and cut them into carying length strips. Sew them all together so they are in one long piece.

Get your long strip and ruffle it.

Here’s how mine looked at this point.

Press the ruffle strip so it’s nice and flat.

Now pin the ruffle strip in a swirl pattern onto your shirt.

Then just sew it into place around all the edges.

Here’s the finished product.

I love this kind of shirt under a black blazer.

I’ve also checked out “The Art of Manipulating Fabric” by Colette Wolff from the library and it’s really inspired me to try some new texturing techniques.

So I thought I’d start with this style top with shirring with a gathering foot. Honestly, I’ve never used my gathering foot. I don’t have any idea why!! So here goes!

Get a shirt that’s larger than your size. When you shirr it it’s going to get smaller. I am a small and I got this XL T. I think a larger or even a medium would have worked, though.

Next, with chalk or an erasable marker, draw where you want to shirr it. I used my computer to show you so it would show up better. I did mine over the sleeves and down quite a bit in the front.

Next, attach your gathering foot. If you don’t have one, you could use elastic thread instead.  Now stitch the hey out of it every which way possible!! Up, down, side ways, swirlies… you get the point. Just keep stitching and stitching and stitching!! It’s sort of like scribbling with your sewing machine!

Your end result will look something like this:

My face is not worthy of a photo today. Sorry. I also thought this would be great as a maternity shirt because it creates extra fabric in the front for a growing belly!

It’s super easy! I got some cotton t-shirt material and cut out a pattern this shape. I made my neckline wide so I could hang it off the shoulder if I wanted to. Then you make the top wide, narrowing it in, as shown.

I love that sort of sloppy, but still cute look. It’s E-A-S-Y!!  You can do a lot to this basic shape. You can make the sleeves wider, make it long sleeves, more off the shoulder, less of the shoulder- all from this basic shape. You can also make the hemline long and flowy or narrow it in so it hugs the hips more.

Stitch all the way around the bib…

Easy, right!? The only thing I did after was add some pleats around the bib. It didn’t look complete to me. But I think it looks nice either way! I love cream and grey together!

I like how it’s nautical themed, but won’t ever go out of subtle because it’s not TOO over the top. Like it?
