Shades of Grace
May 16, 2011 6:34 pmMeet Grace. One of my sister’s best friends and an adopted sister to us all. Grace is full of life, joy and enthusiasm for whatever she’s doing. We love having her in our lives.
Grace loves dresses. She has stories about all these dresses she’s found through the years. When she was here to visit I started thinking about all her many dresses. They aren’t “in style” but they’re so her and each one looks like it was made to fit per perfectly. They’re her own style and that’s what makes them perfect for her.
It just got me thinking more about “style”. When it comes down to it, who cares, really? What I love about Grace is she wears what she loves and it looks great on her. Every time I see her in one of her dresses it makes me smile. They all have so much character, just like her. I wish I would have gotten more pictures of her in them. She has so many!
Then she puts the cutest little shoes with them every time. The whole look just makes you smile.
To me, it’s what style and clothing is meant to do- show who you are. Not showing the latest trends or what’s “in”.
I think what I like about the way Grace dresses is it doesn’t put emphasis on the “stuff”.
It brings Grace out. And what’s more important than that?

Friday Fall Fashion Puzzle
October 8, 2010 7:15 amThis week my sister, Clare, is gone so I had to ‘model’ my own outfit. Which didn’t go so well. Please know that I didn’t intend for my face to not be in one picture (although I’m somewhat relieved). It’s just I’m no good at propping the camera and taking my own pictures.
For this week I wanted to show you how to take a spring/summer dress into the fall. I have one of my favorite dresses here that I got about 6 years ago. I put a long sleeve T over it in a similar tone as the dress’ background so it wouldn’t cut me off. Then I added a small skinny belt over that to add some definition.
I paired it with my favorite, bulky fall riding boots and you can add a jacket.
I love the soft, airy gypsy feel to this fabric.
Then you contrast it with some heavy leather and it takes it into the cool weather season. If you’re going to invest in a pair of boots, I highly recommend riding boots. They are always in style and have such a classic, American sportswear feel to them.
Don’t be afraid to transition pieces into fall. Just think about contrasting them instead of pairing them.
Enjoy your weekend!
