Nautical Sweatshirt

July 22, 2010 12:15 pm

I decided to throw out all my sweatshirts. I just get too tempted every morning to put one on. Then I decide no makeup, then why not just wear sweatpants? Awww… why not just get back in bed? (Am I the only one that does that?)  It’s a vicious cycle. So I wanted to make something cute, stylish and comfortable.  Here’s what I came up with.

It’s a sweatshirt material, although much softer.

I added a kangaroo pocket with vintage gold nautical buttons…

…with a cute striped lining.

I’ve got some coming to the store soon.

Daily Wear 3.7.10

March 7, 2010 4:58 pm

Happy Sunday to you all! The sun has broken through and I’m really enjoying the day!  I thought if I smiled I’d feel less awkward in my pictures. :) Here’s today’s outfit.

What I’m wearing:

Purple dress that I made. I told you I wear it a lot. :)

Grey J. Crew cardigan. Hand me down from my sister.

Black American Apparel leggings

Black Frye  Paige boots (I didn’t pay that much for them. I got them used on ebay. It’s one of my favorite fashion tricks. I’ll buy really high quality things that are slightly used on ebay for so  much cheaper!!)

My Coco Bijou Bangles and a Sergio Gutierrez bracelet from my husband for my first Mother’s Day

Have a BEAUTIFUL day!!!

The origin of my love for sloves

December 19, 2009 9:03 am

Many of you have asked where my love for these ‘sloves’ came from. (ok, one of you :) ) But I wanted to tell my little story why I love them.

My husband, Zach, and I have known each other since we were 6. We were best friends in highschool and he had this sweatshirt that was his favorite that I always loved.

Here it is today, 10 years later.
I used to wear this sweatshirt a lot when we were friends. It was just cozy and comforting to me. He wore it all the time and soon enough it got little holes in the hem of the sleeves. So I used to stick my thumbs in the holes. It made it extra comforting to me. Ever since high school this sweatshirt has been like a security blanket for me. It reminds me of my sweet husband and the friendship that our relationship is based on.

So that’s why I like these so much. They just make me feel comfortable. Thanks for listening to that! :)

Anyhow, I wanted to make a pair for my sister that looked Free People-ish. So I found this wool sweater with these great button cuffs at the end. I cut them at a slightly flared angle.
Mark then cut a little hole for your thumb.

Around the edges I stitched with varying colored embroidery thread.

Done!

Enjoying my sloves…

…Now I have to take them off and wrap them in a box :(

Sleeve- Gloves. Sloves??

December 16, 2009 2:06 pm

My hands are so warm I can’t take these things off!!

Here’s a simple project made of old sweaters.

Take two old sleeves and cut them off the sweater.
Mark where you want your thumbs to stick out and cut little holes there.
To decorate them, the possibilities are endless. I took a long ruffle then cut them into little pieces and made little rosettes. You can glue or stitch them on to the sleeve/glove.
Then I put different buttons on.

Now I’m happy and warm!

Gotta love cozy and cute!
